Independent Living Reviews for Mennonite Village

I visited this facility
I did not care for Mennonite Village. The hallways were too narrow and dark. The communal living area was too small. The tour guide was inexperienced. She was very new. I did not see any of residents. I did not see any activities, and for me, that's not a good sign. I was only shown a studio because there's just a small wall between the bed area and the living area and a kitchen. It was too small for me. That's not what I was looking for. I would give the facilities a rating of five because that was only one small part of the whole area. The staff drove us all around the whole campus, and the rest of the campus looked very nice. I would have liked to see any recreation area like a game room. She did not show me a hair salon or a general area where people can gather. There were not enough amenities.
Nursing Home Reviews for Mennonite Village

I visited this facility
I have seen some of the homes at Mennonite Village, and they were very nice and well-kept but very expensive. They have a nursing facility and also homes that you can buy, but when you no longer have use for the house, your heirs cannot sell it. It automatically goes back to the Village. The nursing facility is like a hospital and has the same smell as a hospital. They have long-term residents and short-term residents. It was not a pleasant visit.

I am a friend or relative of resident
Mennonite Home is a wonderful facility. I have first hand experience with them as my family member was a resident there in the rehab hall for 2 months. In that time I learned the employees truly love these residents and care deeply for them. They also care about you as the family of a loved one going through a tough time. They will take time to make sure you are doing okay and talk to you about the residents day and progress, tell funny stories about their encounter with your resident, as well as get to know you and the resident better. It's a very comfortable environment. Doesn't matter where you come from or your beliefs at Mennonite Home they treat you like family. Only thing that could be undesirable about this facility is the shared rooms. For us this was a good thing because it was someone to keep her company while we were not able to be there. Great staff, appears to be ran very well and a gorgeous campus!

I am a friend or relative of a resident
My mom is in Mennonite Village right now. It seems to be an upbeat, positive place. The rooms are really small. It would be nice if they had their phone system so that the occupants could call long distance out from there. They said they have to have a calling card, but when the person is 95, it's hard to make contact sometimes.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
Although my dad was dying of congestive heart failure, he did not deserve to be neglected during the evening shifts. for example, hen he was finished in the bathroom (he needed to be hoisted out of bed) and needed to get back to bed, he was screaming for the nurses to come back and help him. I found the same nurses in the hallways having wheelchair races with each other, not tending to their patients. When my dad was choking from the water build-up in his lungs, my brother and I ran down the hallway looking for a doctor or nurse. A doctor and two nurses were sitting in a room. The young, blonde doctor was taking her time getting her stethoscope from a drawer then casually walking to his room. We yelled at her to start running but she began flirting with us while she walked slowly. When we got to the room, my dad was several shades of purple and almost near death. After the doctor removed nearly 1 quart of water from his lungs, she told us later that she really thought my brother and I were hitting on her and that we just wanted to get her out into the hallways to talk with her. What kind of place are they running there after hours when no administrators are present? Assisted living? Transcendental death? Certainly not good doctor and nursing care!
